Haryana IPS Death Probe Intensifies: Family Blocks Autopsy as Rohtak SP Is Replaced

A nine-page note alleging caste-based harassment has widened the inquiry and driven actions against senior officials.

Overview

  • Chandigarh Police formed a six-member SIT led by IG Pushpendra Kumar to investigate IPS V. Puran Kumar’s 7 October death by gunshot at his government residence.
  • The Haryana government has replaced Rohtak SP Narendra Bijaraniya and earlier sent DGP Shatrugjit Kapoor and Bijaraniya on leave following allegations in the case.
  • Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, filed an FIR citing abetment to suicide under BNS 108 and SC/ST Act provisions after a note accused senior officers of caste-based humiliation and harassment.
  • Relatives say the body was moved to PGIMER without consent and the family is refusing the postmortem and last rites until they see progress toward accountability.
  • Separately, a blast at Accurate Energetic Systems in Tennessee left 19 people missing and presumed dead, and India’s Supreme Court will rule on 13 October on a demand for a CBI probe into the Karur stampede.
