Haryana Gangster Mainpal Dhilla Deported From Cambodia and Returned to Custody

A CBIInterpol operation anchored by a 2024 Red Notice led Cambodian authorities to deport the life-term convict.

Overview

  • Dhilla, also known as Mainpal Badli and Sonu Kumar, was escorted to India on September 2 by a Haryana Police STF team after Cambodian authorities agreed to hand him over.
  • He had been serving life terms for multiple murders when he jumped parole in 2018, disappearing abroad while still facing numerous pending cases in Haryana.
  • Investigators say he used a fraudulently obtained Indian passport in the name Sonu Kumar, moved through Thailand, Mauritius and Indonesia, and settled in Siem Reap where he ran a discotheque.
  • CBI secured an Interpol Red Notice on November 6, 2024, sent a provisional arrest request on March 26, 2025, and was informed of his arrest by NCB‑Phnom Penh on July 24.
  • CBI, acting as India’s Interpol NCB through its BHARATPOL platform, coordinated with MEA and MHA, and Haryana STF now plans further interrogation and legal action, including the fake passport case.
