Overview
- Led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda with state chief Rao Narendra, the Congress Legislature Party met Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh in Chandigarh and submitted a detailed memorandum.
- The party cited heavy post-monsoon rains that submerged paddy, cotton and other kharif crops, seeking a special survey and compensation of ₹50,000–₹60,000 per acre.
- Leaders alleged widespread paddy procurement irregularities and MSP gaps, saying farmers were forced to sell ₹500–₹600 per quintal below the floor price, and they sought an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge.
- The memorandum reported severe fertiliser shortages and black marketing that it said compounded farm losses and disrupted input supplies.
- Citing a rise in murder, extortion, robbery, rape, theft and drug cases, the delegation urged the Governor to instruct the state government to restore public security.
