Overview
- Peak fullness occurs around 11:47–11:48 p.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 6, and the moon will look nearly full for several nights.
- In the UK, moonrise is about 6:20 p.m. BST on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with clearer skies favored in southern England and more cloud and rain likely farther north.
- Large parts of the U.S. are forecast to have mostly clear skies Monday night, offering good views of the low, golden moonrise and a bright disk overnight.
- For the best view, watch near moonrise on a clear eastern horizon; the horizon “moon illusion” can make it seem larger, and Saturn will shine nearby.
- The event begins a run of three consecutive supermoons, followed by the Beaver Moon on Nov. 5 and the Cold Moon on Dec. 4, as higher-than-normal tides also affect some U.S. Southeast coasts.
