Overview
- The full phase occurs around 11:47–11:48 p.m. ET on Oct. 6 (4:48 a.m. BST on Oct. 7), with UK moonrise widely listed near 6:20 p.m. BST on Tuesday.
- Forecasts favor clear skies across much of the U.S. and southern England and Wales, with northern UK areas facing more cloud or rain after Storm Amy.
- As a supermoon near perigee, it can look up to 14% larger and about 30% brighter than an average full moon, especially striking at moonrise due to the Moon Illusion and atmospheric scattering.
- This is the latest Harvest Moon since 1987 and it begins a run of consecutive supermoons, followed by the Beaver Moon on Nov. 5 and the Cold Moon on Dec. 4.
- Expect the bright moonlight to diminish views of faint meteors and some comets as the Draconids begin and the Orionids approach, though Saturn will appear near the Moon for easy spotting.
