Harvard Resident Dean Disavows Past Posts as Screenshots Resurface

The university has offered no public discipline, directing inquiries to the dean’s note saying the comments do not reflect his current views.

Overview

  • Screenshots published by Yardreport and the Harvard Salient show Gregory K. Davis, now Dunster House’s resident dean, posted from 2016 to 2021 that police were “racist and evil,” that “rioting and looting are parts of democracy,” and shared a meme about President Trump reading “If he dies, he dies,” with an additional June 2024 Instagram post saying “love each other and hate the police.”
  • In an email circulated to Dunster House affiliates, Davis said the posts do not reflect his current beliefs, expressed regret for any negative impact, and noted constructive work with Harvard University Police Department colleagues.
  • Because Davis is on parental leave, his message was shared by Dunster Faculty Deans Taeku Lee and Shirley Lee, who told students the House remains a welcoming community.
  • Harvard has not announced disciplinary action; spokesperson Jonathan Palumbo declined to discuss personnel matters and referred reporters to Davis’s message.
  • Yardreport, an anonymous right-leaning aggregator whose authors have not identified themselves, surfaced the screenshots as conservative outlets amplified calls for Davis’s removal; Davis’s social media accounts have since been deleted or made private.
