Overview
- The BCCI named 23-year-old left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey in India’s Test and ODI squads for the Afghanistan tour in a selection announced on June 3.
- Dubey earned the call after a breakout 2024–25 domestic season for Vidarbha in which he took 69 wickets and scored 469 runs, plus visibility from IPL appearances with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
- He learned of the selection while waiting at an airport, initially mistook the call for a Sri Lanka A nod because of lounge noise, and described the news as surreal.
- India begin the short assignment with a one-off Test in Mullanpur on June 6 followed by three ODIs and the reports do not confirm whether Dubey will be named in the playing XI.
- The selectors’ move gives Dubey a chance to work under captain Shubman Gill and share a dressing room with veterans such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma while India build bench strength ahead of the 2027 ODI cycle.
