Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ To Become Broadway’s No. 3 Longest-Running Play on Sept. 1

The production holds Guinness’ designation as Broadway’s highest-grossing non-musical play.

  • At the 7 p.m. Sept. 1 performance, the show marks its 2,328th outing at the Lyric Theatre, surpassing Abie’s Irish Rose to rank third among non-musical plays, behind Life with Father and Tobacco Road.
  • At its 2,329th performance on Sept. 3, it is set to rise to the No. 32 spot among all Broadway shows by overtaking the original Man of La Mancha and Rock of Ages.
  • The Broadway engagement opened April 22, 2018 as a two-part event, shifted to a one-part version on Dec. 7, 2021, and adopted a shorter iteration in November 2024.
  • Guinness World Records cites more than $430 million in Broadway sales and over 3.5 million tickets sold, with global attendance topping 11 million across current runs in London, New York, Hamburg and Tokyo and a North American tour.
  • London’s West End production introduces new principals from Oct. 15 as the Palace Theatre run extends through July 26, 2026, and Tom Felton is slated to join the Broadway cast as Draco Malfoy from Nov. 11, 2025 to May 10, 2026.
