Overview
- The Prince of Wales invested Charlotte Charles with the honour during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.
- Charles said Harry would be “super proud” and described feeling honoured and humbled by the recognition.
- Her advocacy followed the 2019 death of 19-year-old Harry Dunn, who was struck near RAF Croughton by a car driven on the wrong side of the road by then–US State Department employee Anne Sacoolas.
- Sacoolas pleaded guilty in October 2022 to causing death by careless driving via video link and received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
- Campaigning by Dunn’s family is credited with road-safety improvements near US Air Force bases and with UK–US adjustments to the diplomatic-immunity anomaly, and Charles has also taken her case to the White House to meet President Donald Trump.
