Overview

  • A University of Houston survey of 2,300 registered voters from July 24–29 found strong support for entertainment investments with a margin of error of ±4%.
  • About 74% of respondents favor county funding for NRG Stadium renovations, with most saying the public share should not exceed 20% of total costs.
  • Sixty-two percent of voters support using public money as part of a public-private partnership to transform the long-vacant Astrodome into a mixed-use entertainment venue.
  • Residents expressed high enthusiasm for a Houston theme park (68%), a WNBA franchise (64%), an NHL team (61%) and hosting FIFA World Cup 2026 matches (75%).
  • Recent assessments estimate NRG Stadium will need $1.4 billion in maintenance over the next 30 years while the Astrodome Conservancy’s $1 billion revitalization proposal awaits county review.
