Harley-Davidson Rider Critically Injured in Wadsworth Left-Turn Collision

Authorities have opened a technical probe into the Route 173 crash.

Overview

  • Deputies say the crash happened around 1:10 p.m. Friday on Route 173 east of Route 41 near the entrance to Van Patton Woods Forest Preserve.
  • A Nissan Rogue driven eastbound by a 38-year-old woman from Muskego, Wisconsin, turned left into the path of a westbound motorcycle.
  • The 68-year-old Wadsworth man riding the Harley-Davidson struck the side of the Nissan and was thrown from the bike.
  • His left leg was severed and he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition after bystanders used a belt as a tourniquet.
  • The Nissan driver was uninjured and is cooperating with investigators, and the Lake County Sheriff's Technical Crash Investigations Team is leading the inquiry.
