Harley-Davidson Recalls 82,117 Softail Motorcycles for Tire Failure Risk

Owner notification starts June 16, with free bracket installations at authorized dealers preventing the adjuster from contacting rear tires.

Overview

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued the recall on June 12 after rear shock pre-load adjuster mounting tabs began fracturing during normal use.
  • Tab failures can allow the adjuster to groove the rear tire, leading to sudden pressure loss and heightened crash risk.
  • Harley-Davidson will mail recall notices by June 16 and fit a redesigned bracket at no cost to riders.
  • Affected owners are advised to watch for unusual noises under the seat, a loose adjuster, handling difficulties or abnormal tire wear.
  • No injuries or deaths have been reported and some motorcycles previously repaired under recall 23V591 still need the new retrofit.
