- Haribo on May 29 recalled its Happy Cola Fizz candies in the Netherlands after the NVWA detected cannabis in three packets
- Although only three packets were confirmed contaminated, Haribo expanded the recall of the cola-bottle shaped sweets across eastern provinces as a precaution
- Consumers, including children, reported dizziness and other illness symptoms after eating the sweets, prompting NVWA action following police notifications
- Police have launched an investigation to determine whether the contamination occurred during production, distribution or at retail outlets
- Haribo’s vice-president of marketing said consumer safety remains the company’s top priority and that it is fully cooperating with Dutch authorities
