- Haribo confirmed late Tuesday that it has abandoned plans to build a roughly €300 million factory in Neuss-Holzheim that was intended to produce Maoam candies.
- The company said changing global economic conditions, persistent shortages of construction materials, and strong price increases on international markets made the project commercially untenable.
- Haribo has withdrawn from the purchase contract for a 15-hectare commercial site in Holzheim, and Neuss’s mayor said the city will suffer no financial loss and can reassign the 150,000 square meters of planned industrial land.
- The firm said it will instead invest in upgrading and expanding its existing German sites, including the current Neuss plant, rather than starting the previously planned 2025 build aimed to begin production around 2028.
- Despite the cancelled build, Haribo reported record sales growth in 2025 and both the company and local officials reject claims that local protests caused the project to fail, leaving the town to weigh new uses for the freed land.
