Hanover Park Reinstates Officer Detained by ICE, Citing Federal Work Authorization

Local officials say he remains eligible to work as his immigration case continues.

Overview

  • Officer Radule Bojovic returned to full-duty on Monday and will receive back pay, the village said.
  • ICE arrested the 25-year-old on Oct. 15 during Operation Midway Blitz, alleging a B2 visa overstay dating to March 31, 2015; an immigration judge set a $2,500 bond, and he was released Oct. 31.
  • Hanover Park says it hired him in January after he presented a valid USCIS work-authorization card, passed FBI and Illinois State Police checks, and completed state-required training and certification.
  • An ATF memo indicated his status allowed him to carry a service weapon while on duty, a position publicly challenged by DHS officials who call his employment unlawful.
  • The arrest came within a Chicago-area enforcement campaign that has detained thousands, and Tribune analysis found about two-thirds of early bookings involved people without known criminal convictions.
