Overview

  • SOG Handwara recovered 22 UBGL grenades, an under‑barrel grenade launcher, 15 AK‑47 rounds and a black powdered material suspected to be explosive after an intelligence-led search.
  • The buried cache also contained pencil cells, a gas cylinder, cooking gear, tarpaulins, groceries and weapon‑cleaning oil, pointing to a concealed hideout or supply point.
  • Officials said the operation followed credible information about terrorist presence in the dense Bhuvan forest area of Rajwar in North Kashmir.
  • Police described the seizure as disrupting terrorist logistics and averting a serious public‑safety threat, and searches are continuing in nearby areas.
  • In a separate action, Awantipora Police apprehended alleged terror associate Sakib Reyaz Gani in Hari Parigam with arms and ammunition, saying he had been missing since May and is linked to a grenade‑throwing case.
