Hands Found on A45 Identified as Eritrean Mother as Police Probe Baby Left at Monastery

Detectives have formed a homicide unit and are searching for the missing 32-year-old as they say the circumstances remain unclear.

Overview

  • Police in Hagen and the Siegen prosecutor’s office said the severed hands belong to a 32-year-old Eritrean woman registered with an asylum accommodation in Bonn.
  • The woman’s three-month-old child was found unharmed on Sunday in a stroller outside a monastery in Waldsolms and is now in official care.
  • Officers say a criminal cause cannot be ruled out and a homicide commission has been established to lead the investigation.
  • The A45 near Olpe-Süd was closed toward Gießen overnight until about 7 a.m. Monday to search the area around the discovery site.
  • Authorities report that the search for the woman has so far been unsuccessful and are seeking witnesses from the stretch between the Großmicke and Unterm Hipperich rest areas.
