Overview
- Hana Bank completed a $100 million five-year foreign-currency digital bond issuance on Euroclear’s Digital Financial Market Infrastructure with issuance, registration and payment settled on the same day.
- Standard Chartered served as sole lead manager for the transaction, which used Hana’s global medium-term note documentation to sell the bond to institutional investors.
- The D-FMI platform recorded the security on a distributed ledger but remained linked to Euroclear’s conventional settlement network so investors could buy and trade the bond through their existing Euroclear accounts.
- Same-day (T+0) settlement shortens the normal three-to-five business day cycle, cutting the time issuer funds are frozen and reducing counterparty exposure during the settlement window.
- The deal builds on earlier D-FMI pilots (the platform launched in 2023 with a World Bank note) and follows a June 2026 Korean digital bond done on HSBC’s Orion platform, showing a gradual industry shift as firms test tokenized issuance before South Korea’s February 2027 framework.
