Overview

• Alice Mackey, 42, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court after admitting in July to manslaughter by diminished responsibility.
• Mr Justice Saini said she held a delusional belief that killing Annabel was a misguided act of mercy.
• Prosecutors said Mackey took her daughter to Kingsley Pond, about 300 metres from their home, and held her under the water before falsely claiming abduction in a 999 call.
• The Crown Prosecution Service said three psychiatrists, including a CPS‑instructed expert, concluded she was severely unwell, leading to the manslaughter plea being accepted.
• Annabel was found unresponsive on 10 September 2023, died the following day after life support was withdrawn, and her father’s statement described profound and ongoing trauma.
