Hammer Chain Sold Out of Insolvent Brüder Schlau as ReThink Buys 93 Stores

A binding asset sale moves Hammer to a new vehicle under ReThink, leaving closures plus labor terms still to be finalized.

Overview

  • Company statements confirm a signed agreement transferring Hammer assets to the newly formed Hammer Raumstylisten GmbH backed by the ReThink investor group.
  • About 70 Hammer branches are slated to shut, the Schlau wholesale arm will be wound down with stock sold off, and some individual sites could continue under different names.
  • Roughly 1,200 positions will be retained at the 93 continuing stores, compared with about 3,900 people employed before the insolvency filing in June.
  • The revamped business will emphasize marketing of interior craft services complemented by matching products, and the retained locations are expected to fulfill existing customer orders.
  • The full investor lineup has not been disclosed, with GA Europe reported as a possible participant, and negotiations with works councils on social plans and interest-balancing measures are ongoing.
