• The City of Hamilton confirmed Aug. 7 as “Shai Rally Day” with a free 3:30 p.m. public rally at Hamilton Stadium.
• Mayor Andrea Horwath will present Gilgeous-Alexander with the key to the city during the afternoon ceremony.
• Later that day, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ home game against the B.C. Lions at Tim Hortons Field will feature a special tribute to him.
• The honors follow his sweep of the NBA MVP, scoring title, Finals MVP awards and leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first NBA championship.
• At 26, Gilgeous-Alexander became the second Canadian MVP after Steve Nash and won the ESPY for best male athlete, underscoring Hamilton’s growing basketball legacy.
