Hamburg's Diebsteich S-Bahn Station to Reopen After Long Delays

The station's reopening, delayed by a shortage of specialized inspectors, is now scheduled for late January 2025 after nearly two years of closure.

The Diebsteich S-Bahn station in Hamburg has been closed since October 2022 for renovations tied to the relocation of the Altona train station.
The station's reopening, originally planned for November 2023, was postponed twice due to revised construction plans and a lack of certified inspectors.
Specialized inspectors, whose training takes 7-10 years, were unavailable to complete safety checks, delaying the final approval process.
Final construction work, including connecting tracks to the new platform, will begin on January 7, 2025, with reopening expected by the end of the month.
During the closure, replacement buses and adjusted S-Bahn schedules have been in place, with travel times extended by up to 20 minutes for affected passengers.
