Hamburg Tourism Grows in H1 2025 With Top Hotel Occupancy in Germany

Overview

  • Hamburg logged about 7.7 million overnight stays in the first half of 2025, a 2% increase from a year earlier.
  • Hotel occupancy reached 74.7%, the highest among German cities and second in Europe behind Barcelona, with average revenue per room at €129 per day.
  • Events, congresses and a comeback of on-site business travel underpinned gains, with 88% of business travelers recommending Hamburg and 78% intending to return privately.
  • Roughly three million domestic visitors accounted for about six million nights, while some 710,000 international guests booked 1.6 million nights with average stays of 2.3 days.
  • The U.S. market recorded around 120,000 overnights, up 6.9%, and cruise traffic counted 133 calls in H1 with 297 scheduled for the year as lines position Hamburg as a year-round port.
