Overview

• The Verbindungsbahn shutdown will last until 4 AM on August 1 after a cable fault was uncovered during Deutsche Bahn’s bridge renewal works at Sternbrücke.
• Lines S2 and S5 are rerouted via the Citytunnel, bypassing Dammtor, Sternschanze and Holstenstraße, reducing peak‐hour track capacity.
• Replacement buses are serving passengers between Hauptbahnhof and Altona through the evening of July 31, according to S-Bahn Hamburg’s spokesperson.
• Scheduled reinforcement services on the S1 and additional S2 peak trains have been canceled, increasing crowding and delays for commuters.
• Deutsche Bahn will run one-way S2 and S5 services on August 2–3—regular toward Altona with return trips still routed through the Citytunnel—while it continues rebuilding four overpasses.
