Overview

  • Firefighters have battled the Veddel blaze for more than 40 hours, with roughly 50 personnel now assigned to cooling, overhaul and observation.
  • Two rows of containers caught fire around 2:30 a.m. and were extinguished with water cannons, and a separate container exploded shortly before 4 a.m.
  • The incident began Monday when a car ignited inside a forwarding-company warehouse on Müggenburger Straße, and detonating gas cylinders believed to contain nitrous oxide accelerated the fire.
  • Six people have been injured, three seriously, as authorities continue to warn of hazards from residual hotspots and previous explosions.
  • Crews are opening containers individually, using water curtains to prevent spread, and the operation remains ongoing with no clear end in sight.
