Hamburg Police Arrest 30-Year-Old After 13-Year-Old Collapses on Bus

Police are pursuing a case under medicines law over a suspected sale of the anesthetic to a minor.

Overview

  • The 13-year-old collapsed on a city bus in Hamburg’s Farmsen-Berne and was taken to a hospital as a precaution before being released to his legal guardians.
  • Officers say there are indications the child took ketamine allegedly bought the previous evening from a 30-year-old suspect.
  • Drug unit LKA 68 searched the suspect’s apartment in Wandsbek and seized about 26 grams of ketamine, roughly 80 grams of amphetamine, several ecstasy tablets, and a small amount of cocaine.
  • The man was arrested and placed in pretrial detention and is to be brought before a magistrate on suspicion of selling a prescription drug to a 13-year-old.
  • Ketamine is increasingly misused as a party drug in Germany and, while not listed under the Narcotics Act, illicit trade is prosecutable under the Medicines Act.
