Overview
- Hamburg’s housing requirement for kept birds takes effect today, while Kreis Kleve’s countywide order enters force on October 31 and applies until further notice.
- The rules cover all keepers regardless of flock size and list species including chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, quail, pigeons, pheasants, partridges and ratites.
- Poultry and pigeon exhibitions, markets and similar events are prohibited in the affected jurisdictions.
- Birds must be kept in closed housing or under bird‑proof roofing and netting, with secured feed and water, separated clothing and regular rodent control.
- The measures follow an early HPAI wave in migratory birds with recent detections and an outbreak in Rees, as farmers confine flocks and warn of potential losses for Martin’s Day and Christmas sales.
