Hamburg A1 Northbound To Close Midday for Heavy-Transport Recovery

Two heavy cranes will lift the inoperable trailer, underscoring the A1’s role as Hamburg’s main corridor for oversized freight.

Overview

  • The A1 between Moorfleet and Billstedt is scheduled to be fully closed northbound from about 12:00 to 15:00 for a recovery operation.
  • Authorities say a heavy transport broke down early morning near Moorfleet due to a technical defect, leaving its trailer unroadworthy on the shoulder.
  • Recovery will deploy two heavy-duty cranes to remove the cargo and vehicle, necessitating a full closure for safety.
  • Traffic will be diverted on U87 via Ring 2 (Andreas-Meyer-Straße), the Horner Rampe, and the B5, and the A25 access from Geesthacht toward Lübeck/Berlin will be unavailable during the closure.
  • A separate southbound truck breakdown earlier blocked two lanes and, according to Hamburger Morgenpost, caused roughly six kilometers of congestion near the Norderelbbrücke.
