Hamas fired rockets toward Jerusalem, endangering holy sites such as the Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.
This is the first time in months that rockets have targeted Jerusalem.
One of the rockets reached the Palestinian Authority capital of Ramallah, landing near a hospital.
The rocket attacks were reported just as Shabbat was beginning.
