- Hamas said it agreed to a 60-day temporary ceasefire that would include phased release of about half the hostages, Israeli prisoner releases and talks toward a broader deal, with reports saying the terms closely resemble a U.S. plan Israel had previously said it would accept.
- Israeli military chief Lt. Gen. Tamir Zamir said operations will soon move to a next phase and attacks in northern Gaza City will intensify following his inspection of Gaza.
- Israel began moving tents and other shelter supplies into Gaza on Aug. 17 via the Kerem Shalom crossing for UN and aid group deliveries after Israeli inspections as part of plans to relocate residents south.
- Palestinian media reported evacuation leaflets in parts of Gaza City, and strikes near Al-Ahli Arab Hospital were reported with seven deaths as the Israeli military said Hamas fighters were operating in the area.
- Gaza health authorities reported more than 61,900 deaths since October 2023, and Amnesty International accused Israel of a "deliberate starvation" policy and urged it to facilitate aid.
