Halifax Water has issued a mandatory water conservation order for several communities in Halifax Regional Muncipality.

  • Mandatory limits take effect immediately for Dartmouth, Burnside, Cole Harbour, Westphal, North Preston and Eastern Passage.
  • Bans include watering lawns, filling pools, washing vehicles and watering golf courses, and Lake Major bulk-fill stations are closed.
  • Residents are urged to cut indoor use by taking shorter showers, turning off taps and running only full loads.
  • Enforcement will start with education and warnings, with a web form and call line for reporting, then summary offence tickets and, if necessary, service suspension; fine amounts are still being finalized.
  • Lake Major is in a warning phase after prolonged dry weather, Pockwock and Bennery remain on voluntary measures, and a Stage 2 order targeting large industrial users could follow without sustained rainfall.
