Overview
- Bitkom released the findings in Berlin on August 25 based on May–June 2025 interviews with 1,209 people aged 16 and over, including 595 podcast users.
- Adoption is broad: 52% of 16–29 year-olds, 51% of both 30–49 and 50–64 year-olds, and 44% of those 65 and older listen at least occasionally.
- Listening often happens during everyday tasks, with 44% in the car, 36% while cleaning or tidying, 30% on public transport, and 41% to fall asleep.
- Only a minority are heavy users, as 14% listen three to five hours per week and 4% go beyond that.
- Bitkom podcast expert Tobias Grimm says the format now feels as natural as radio or television yet more personal and flexible.
