Overview
- The facility, opened by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, was inaugurated on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and is billed as India’s largest integrated phenol‑acetone unit.
- Company figures put annual capacity at about 345,000 tonnes of phenol and 215,000 tonnes of acetone and say the plant uses on‑purpose propylene and advanced Lummus process technology that are firsts for India.
- Haldia Petrochemicals projects more than Rs 5,000 crore in annual revenue from the unit next year and expects roughly 400 direct jobs plus about 1,000 indirect roles, figures that company and government sources describe as estimates.
- The state government pledged a new industrial policy to be finalised before Diwali, ordered unused allotted land to be surrendered for fresh projects, and announced funding commitments for a 50‑bed trauma and burn centre due by June 2027.
- The project builds on Haldia’s 25‑year petrochemical hub history and is promoted as import‑substitution for chemicals used by pharmaceuticals, laminates and coatings makers, while additional downstream investments remain announced but not yet implemented.
