HAL and Safran Sign Paris Air Show Pact to Localize LEAP Engine Part Production

Overview

  • The agreement was finalized at the 55th Paris Air Show, marking the start of industrial production of LEAP engine rotating parts in India.
  • This deal builds on a 2023 memorandum of understanding and a February 2024 contract for superalloy forged components.
  • HAL’s Ring Rolling facility in Bengaluru will deploy newly developed near-net ring forging technology to manufacture Inconel rings.
  • LEAP engines currently power over 370 aircraft operated by Indian carriers and account for more than 75% of the country’s commercial fleet.
  • Safran plans to expand its Indian network with a sixth Hyderabad MRO facility opening by year-end alongside five existing sites in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Goa.
