H135 Helicopter Strikes Power Pylon in Fog, Killing Pilot in Lombardy

ANSV has seized the site to conduct a safety investigation into weather, health or mechanical factors.

Overview

  • The Eurocopter EC135/Airbus H135 departed Costigliole d’Asti for Verona before crashing between Casalromano and Isola Dovarese around 10:40 a.m. local time.
  • Emergency services coordinated by AREU arrived with an ambulance, a medical car and an air-rescue helicopter dispatched from Brescia.
  • Firefighters report the aircraft clipped an Enel power pylon and struck trees before impacting open farmland shrouded in dense fog.
  • The sole occupant, identified as 56-year-old Marco Eusebio Pavan, was found near the wreckage and pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Investigators are reconstructing the flight and have not ruled out poor visibility, a pilot medical event or a technical failure as they secure evidence and analyze the wreckage.
