H-1B Visa Application Process Overhauled, Starts March 6

New rules aim to reduce fraud and ensure fairness, with significant fee increases starting next year.

  • The H-1B visa application submission process for the fiscal year 2025 will start from March 6, 2024, with a major overhaul of its annual lottery system.
  • The new system includes a beneficiary-centric selection process for registrations by employers, meaning applications will now be counted and accepted based on individual applicants.
  • US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced a set of new rules aimed at strengthening the integrity of and reducing the potential for fraud in the H-1B registration process.
  • Starting with fiscal 2025, USCIS will require registrants to provide valid passport information or valid travel document information for each beneficiary.
  • The fee for a registration will increase to $250 from $10 starting next year, and the application fee will jump to $780 from $460, starting this year.
