Gwinnett Police Fatally Shoot Man Who Pointed Gun During Chase

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now handling the case.

Overview

  • Officers were called around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 to the 5700 block of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard about a vehicle linked to another jurisdiction.
  • Police say the driver rammed a marked patrol car, fled the area, and crashed in the 7000 block before running from the vehicle.
  • During the foot chase, officers say verbal commands were ignored and a Taser deployment failed before the man produced a handgun.
  • Authorities identified the suspect as 39-year-old Brent Elvin Ivy of Daula, Georgia, and said two officers fired their weapons after he pointed the gun.
  • Ivy was pronounced dead at the scene, no officers were injured, and his body will be taken to the county medical examiner for autopsy as the GBI leads the investigation.
