Gwinnett Officer Killed, Another Wounded in Hotel-Room Shooting as Suspect Is Charged

The GBI is leading an investigation into an unprovoked hotel-room shooting that began as a fraud call.

Overview

  • Police identified the fallen officer as Police Officer Senior Pradeep Tamang, 25, and said Master Police Officer David M. Reed remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
  • Authorities named the suspect as Kevin Andrews, 35, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has been arrested.
  • UPI and Fox News report Andrews has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault upon a public safety officer, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Officials said the officers responded to a report of fraudulent credit card use at the Holiday Inn Express on 1790 E. Park Place Boulevard, were invited into a room, and were shot before one officer returned fire.
  • The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case and will forward findings to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review; local leaders, including Gov. Brian Kemp, offered condolences.
