Overview

• Approximately 150 patients, visitors and staff were evacuated from the basement and ground floor areas as a precaution
• Nine people were treated for chlorine gas inhalation at the scene and four were hospitalised, including one injured staff member
• London Fire Brigade crews, including two engines, two Fire Rescue Units and a Command Unit with hazmat officers, stood down operations by 11:09 BST
• The incident occurred in a non-patient plant room and Guy’s Hospital has urged patients to keep their appointments unless directly contacted
• An alleged accidental mix of chlorine and sulphuric acid has been reported by police but remains unverified pending formal investigation
