Guwahati Police Report 2025 Crime Drop, Higher Convictions, Faster Case Disposal

Police leaders credit new criminal-law procedures for faster trials that improved case outcomes.

  • Registered cases fell to 5,786 in 2025 from 7,412 in 2024 and 9,393 in 2023, with property crimes down to 1,854 and vehicle thefts reduced to 553, including 267 recoveries for a 48.2% rate.
  • The charge-sheet filing rate rose to 68.34% in 2025 from 19.13% in 2021 as overall convictions reached about 28.5% and convictions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita were reported at about 86%.
  • Pending cases dropped to 2,882 by year-end 2025, down from 35,396 in 2021, indicating accelerated disposal across the commissionerate.
  • Narcotics enforcement intensified with 406 NDPS cases and 555 arrests, as seizures included 11.919 kg heroin and 529.301 kg ganja valued at roughly ₹28.86 crore.
  • Cyber police returned ₹6.28 crore to victims while handling 18 registered cases and 1,784 enquiries, and road safety improved with 1,026 accidents recorded and about ₹50.21 crore collected in traffic fines.
