Overview

• The Northeast Bamboo Conclave 2025 in Guwahati, organised by NECBDC with support from NEC, MDoNER and the National Bamboo Mission, set an agenda focused on investments, CSR and a bamboo-based bio‑economy.
• MoUs were signed with Numaligarh Refinery and SELCO Foundation for CSR-led initiatives, and with IIT Guwahati and NID Ahmedabad for design and technology collaboration, with NECBDC also recently partnering CMTI to develop indigenous processing machines.
• Bamboo specialists said the commissioning this week of India’s first bamboo-based bioethanol plant at Numaligarh could boost market demand and value chains in the region.
• Nagaland announced a state-of-the-art Cane and Bamboo Technology Park at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre in Sovima as the NBDA reported 1,506 hectares of block plantations, two common facility centres, and training for over 200 entrepreneurs and artisans.
• Private sector interest in engineered bamboo manufacturing was reported, with All Time Plastics, an IKEA partner, indicating intent to establish a unit to strengthen supply chains and sustainable packaging.
