Guthrie Task Force Consults Florida Labs to Advance DNA Work
Investigators hope new lab testing will produce DNA leads that point to who took Nancy Guthrie from her Tucson home.
Overview
- Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her Catalina Foothills home on Jan. 31 and is believed to have been kidnapped, a case led by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and an FBI task force.
- Earlier this month task force investigators traveled to Florida to meet with laboratory scientists to explore additional DNA tests and technical approaches to move the investigation forward.
- Authorities have been pursuing forensic evidence for months, including a hair sample moved to FBI custody in April, as they try different lab methods to recover usable DNA.
- Two ransom notes sent in early February — a Feb. 2 note saying Guthrie was alive and demanding $4 million in cryptocurrency and a Feb. 6 note saying she had died — were released earlier and investigators are also assessing the credibility of a recently reported possible new note.
- No suspect has been publicly identified despite Ring doorbell footage of a masked person, and investigators continue to ask the public to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or the anonymous tip line 520-88-CRIME with any information.
