- Investigators said the 31-year-old told them he purchased a country-made pistol and four cartridges in Jaunpur for ₹11,000 and intended to kill the woman and then himself.

- Police said the motive stemmed from a rejected marriage proposal about two weeks earlier after which the woman cut off contact.
