Overview

• Police recovered a mutilated body with a severed head on August 28 near an abandoned warehouse about 1.5 km from Poojan Prasad’s home in Sector 36.
• After a missing-person report was filed on September 1, Prasad’s son identified the remains at the mortuary by clothing and a right‑leg injury mark, and the body was released and cremated at Ram Bagh following an autopsy.
• The next day, as the family drove to immerse the ashes in the Yamuna, a maternal uncle spotted Prasad alive at Khandsa labour chowk and brought him home.
• Gurugram Police have registered a murder case at Sector 37 police station and are reviewing CCTV footage and forensic leads to identify the actual victim and trace those responsible.
• Prasad told police he had been sleeping at chowks and construction sites for days due to intoxication, and officials said bodies are handed over when families insist on identification, with DNA samples preserved for verification.
