Guns recovered at airport checkpoints on the rise despite slump in air travel

TSA reports a 10% increase in recovered firearms at airport checkpoints in Q1 2023 compared to the same time last year
TSA officers stopped 6,301 firearms this year, with over 88% of them loaded.
During the first quarter of 2023, TSA officers apprehended 1,508 firearms at airport checkpoints, with 93% of them loaded.
This is a 10.3% increase from the same period in 2022, despite a 20% increase in the number of passengers.
Those caught trying to carry guns onto planes can face major fines and lose TSA PreCheck privileges.
