Gunmen Open Fire on Santo Cristo Bus in Pachacámac

The company halted services as police carried out forensic work and began reviewing CCTV to identify the attackers

Overview

  • A Santo Cristo de Pachacamilla (line 10E) bus was shot at while starting its route on Avenida Las Palmas on Wednesday, forcing about ten passengers to drop to the floor and the 29-year-old driver to return the vehicle to the company terminal.
  • Forensic teams and the Policía Nacional recovered 11 bullet casings at the scene and are collecting evidence and nearby security-camera footage to trace two unknown assailants who witnesses say fled in a black car.
  • No passengers or the driver were reported injured, but the company suspended operations immediately and drivers announced a halt in service to demand security guarantees.
  • Transport representatives described the attack as the third on the firm in roughly two years and police are treating extortion (cobro de cupos) as the main working hypothesis while investigations continue.
  • The incident adds pressure on the government to implement Law 32490's measures and other stronger anti-extortion steps as Lima and Callao remain under a state of emergency and transport leaders press for faster enforcement.
