Overview

  • Eviction was executed on August 4 under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1988 in compliance with High Court and Supreme Court orders.
  • GDA teams sealed all hotel structures and inventoried heritage furniture and artefacts under the supervision of CEO Tariq Hussain Naik.
  • A 2018 High Court ruling deemed Nedou’s Hotel an unauthorized occupant after finding no rent paid since 1990, a decision upheld by the Supreme Court.
  • The nearly 98-kanal, colonial-era estate was established in 1888 by Michael Adam Nedou and has familial ties to the Abdullah political dynasty through marriage.
  • Any future lease or sale of the property will proceed via public auction under the Jammu and Kashmir Land Grants Rules, 2022 to ensure transparent land management.
