Gujarat Sets Nov. 9 MSP Purchases as Unseasonal Rains Hit 42 Lakh Hectares

A ₹15,000 crore purchase plan aims to stabilise farm incomes after late-October crop losses.

Overview

  • Primary estimates indicate crop damage across more than 42 lakh hectares in over 16,000 villages spanning 249 talukas, according to state officials.
  • MSP procurement of groundnut, soybean, moong and urad will run under PM-AASHA through 300-plus centres, with MSPs of ₹7,263 (groundnut), ₹8,768 (moong), ₹7,800 (urad) and ₹5,328 (soybean) per quintal.
  • Over 4,800 teams have completed roughly 70% of on-field loss assessments, after an initial digital survey approach was set aside in favour of physical verification, according to reports.
  • Officials say a relief package will follow completion of surveys, as the Chief Minister and ministers review damage in affected districts and meet farmers.
  • Farmers describe severe losses and some groups seek debt waivers, while the state moved the MSP start from November 1 to November 9 to support marketing of Kharif harvests.
