Gujarat Overhauls Cabinet With Harsh Sanghavi as Deputy CM, Rivaba Jadeja Joins

The BJP cast the overhaul as a reset to broaden representation before local-body contests, positioning for the 2027 assembly race.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel installed a reconstituted council that now totals 26 ministers, close to the constitutional cap of 27.
  • Nineteen newcomers were inducted and six ministers from the previous team were retained after their resignations were not accepted in the mass reset.
  • Harsh Sanghavi, 40, was elevated to deputy chief minister and later allocated key portfolios including Home, Prohibition and Excise, Transport, and Law and Justice.
  • First-term MLA Rivaba Jadeja was sworn in as minister of state and was assigned the Primary, Secondary and Adult Education portfolio in subsequent allocations.
  • The lineup increases women to three and boosts tribal and Scheduled Caste representation with a strong Saurashtra presence, and former Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia entered as a cabinet minister.
