Overview

• Polls for 3,894 gram panchayats were held on June 22 to choose 3,656 sarpanchs and 16,224 members under a new 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes.
• Approximately 72% of the 81 lakh eligible voters participated across 10,479 polling stations, with many braving heavy rains to cast ballots.
• The State Election Commission classified 3,939 stations as sensitive and 336 as highly sensitive and ordered repolls at two booths after spotting irregularities.
• Stray incidents of violence, including group clashes in Dahod and Kutch and ballot misprints in Sabarkantha and Vadodara, slightly marred an otherwise peaceful process.
• The existing quotas for Scheduled Castes (14%) and Scheduled Tribes (7%) were maintained, and votes will be tallied on June 25.
